In 2008 the iPhone introduced a big change to the Mobile Computing Environment. Until then a phone was little more than a phone. However, we saw glimpses of a time when our phone would be so much more.
We thought about what this could mean for Mobile Banking. Making secure transactions on a whim. Paying bills in seconds. Checking balances with a glance at your phone.
We didn’t waste any time. In 2008 Warblr worked with HSBC to conceptualize a Mobile Banking Application. The goal was to take full advantage of these new technologies. We saw the impact it would make in our own life – not just our customers!
The concept was a great success. It has since been used as a model for the global HSBC Mobile Banking solution. Millions of customers are now enjoying a new paradigm of banking.

Hynes Developments

Hynes Developments is a small, research oriented Development company. Their focus is on creating environments that are responsive to the needs of people in our modern era. Hynes Deveopment’s research is all about understanding how architecture, technology and urban form influence the lives and well-being of the people they serve. Their goal is to create developments that are socially, environmentally and economically sensitive within local and global contexts.
Hynes Developments came to Warblr looking to build their brand. At that time, Hynes Developments had already basked in the success of several notable, even famous local projects in the Vancouver area. Still, they had failed to build a brand that resonated with their customers. Warblr helped them reach their goal.
Today, Hynes Developments is working on its next great project. Now they have solid branding to complete the package. They are able to communicate their goals, ambitions, and place in the world with a brand customers easily identify with.

HSBC – New to Canada

HSBC is the largest bank in the world. It is present in 82 countries, with 300,000 employees, and over 100 Million customers.
HSBC Canada realized that they were missing out on a key demographic – people who had recently immigrated from Asia. Since HSBC has a strong presence in Asia, this should have been an automatic win for them; however, other Canadian competitors were capturing many of these new customers. HSBC wanted that piece of the pie. Change was necessary.
Through a number of research, website architecture, design, and copywriting tasks, Warblr enabled HSBC to recapture this lost demographic. We interviewed a number of recent Asian immigrants to try to understand their needs better. We also employed the use of an eye tracker. We used this to test our designs and ensure that we were catering to their specific preferences. This research gave us the information we needed to accomplish our goal.
The resulting website hit the bull’s-eye. It provides a number of services to these new immigrants – beyond what is typically offered from a bank. For example, resources to help them feel comfortable in their new home.
This example shows the power of customer experience. By going above and beyond the call of duty, HSBC was able to provide a real service to their customers. At the same time they were able to exceed their business goals. With good customer experience, everyone wins.

Computer Troubleshooters is a global franchise of Technology Support Specialists present in 24 countries.
In Vancouver, Computer Troubleshooters came to Warblr for help establishing their local presence. Using a Content Management System, Warblr set Computer Troubleshooters up for success.
The Content Management System enabled Computer Troubleshooters to keep their website fresh and relevant to their customers. All this could be done in-house, eliminating the time and expense of contracting Professional Web Developers for each update.

In the last few years, HSBC has been working to unify the processes and tools they use on a global scale. Since each country and business unit has its own set of laws and regulations, this was a challenging task.
One core process that required attention was Account Opening. This is perhaps the most important process to a Bank as it is key to attracting new customers. HSBC wanted a solution flexible enough to be used everywhere by anyone. Easier said then done.
This 2 year project involved a great deal of user research and a number of designs to create a process that was customer focused. It will be a fresh image for the bank. Out with all the “groan-inducing” paperwork we usually associate with banks. In with simplicity.
By streamlining the account opening process and ensuring that only necessary information is captured – without complicated jargon – HSBC has a solution. This solution is tried and tested to work globally. This new process will be adopted over the next few years, and HSBC is confident that their new Account Opening System will result in massive market share gains.

In the last few years, HSBC has been taking an initiative to make those 82 countries more united in the processes and tools that they use. Since each country and business unit has its own set of laws and regulations, this was a challenging task.

This 2 year project involved a great deal of user research. It was challenging to determine the correct balance between customer wants (simplicity), bank requirements (complex) and security requirements (cumbersome). Since Customer experience is about putting focus on the customer, we had to challenge the status quo: make the process customer centric rather than bank centric. After all, most people hate forms. We do! Business Banking Applications are some of the longest forms around….
